The Honey Witch by Sydney J. Shields
2.0
the vibes of this are immaculate and there is some lovely prose… but that’s all it is. vibes and prose!
the ultra cozy path this book took was honestly so unexpected given the set up in the first couple chapters. i thought the slow lead in was great for the but the pacing really fell off after about 30% and there was no attempt at combating the conflict? the characters had an “oh well” attitude despite the stakes feeling really high at the beginning.
i loved the magic system, and i expected way more focus on the witchy rivalry. i also was left with sooo many questions about marigold’s past, the world building, and how the two magics are supposed to work together? everything just felt half baked and the plot/pacing really suffered from it
