i wanted to give this a 5 star sooo bad. i loved this book i was obsessed with it and i read it so fast. this was my first Abby Jimenez book and i will definitely be reading any future books she publishes. i loved this book so much and i cannot stop thinking about it.
i loved the feeling of fake-dating without the couple calling each other "fake boyfriend or fake girlfriend." the tropes were really well written. at first, i thought it was going to be some fluff book, a light summer read, but boy i was wrong. i cried a lot. i was stuck on a roadtrip with my family while reading and i had to quiet my sobs so my family didn't think i was weird. it was a beautiful mix of a cheesy meet-cute, fated mates, found family, single dad goodness, coming of age, and a huge twist that left me self reflecting on my own childhood. definitely not a fluff book and has some very complex topics.
but the ending is the reason i did not give the book 5 stars. i was not satisfied with the ending. while there is an HEA, i wasn't sure if it was going to happen for a long time. in my opinion, i didn't get to see Emma and Justin perfectly happy, blissful, and peaceful without there being a feeling of regret about their relationship from one of them. the HEA was only seen in the epilogue and i wish it lasted longer. i just want to see them happy instead of imagining what happened during the time skip.
while i was not satisfied with the ending, everything else was *chefs kiss*
