Five freaking stars!!
This book!
Lawd This book!
The hype is truly real for this book.
I can't even describe how utterly amazing this book was for me to read. Ok! It took me almost a month to read it but it not the book fault but mines. I sometimes I have the tendency of dragging my feet in book even if I enjoying it. lol
Everything from the characters, the character development, the world building , the plot and everything else in between was freaking solid. This is my first time reading a Marie Lu book so I didn't know what to expect from her. I've been dying to read her books but I never got around to her but let me tell you. I think I just found me a new author to love so I will be reading her other books. lol
The world building in this book was absolutely amazing. They were a couple of times it was iffy towards the beginning cause it felt like we should have known what Warcross was in like the first chapter and not like three chapters down. That should be established first and foremost since it's the essential plot of the book.
The writing in this was amazing as hell because I'm not a big fan for 1st POV because you are only limited that person head. In this one, even tho I was limit to only Emi's head, it didn't feel closed and limited but open and vast. I feel like I was in freaking movie most of time with the Warcross Matches.
THE DIVERSITY IN THIS FEEL ORGANIC AND NOT FORCED! PRAISE!! Well When the main character is Chinese American, the secondary main character/love interest Japanese, three of her team members are LBGTQ , PoC ,and disability rep which felt organic while Warcross in itself is played by people all around the world? Yeah Diversity for the win.
Emika Chen is everything I love in a badass female character. She's intelligent, sassy , can sometimes make reckless and sometimes unmoral moves but all and all a strong, caring person. She's a character that I enjoyed being inside her head and seeing what drives and motive her to do the things she did in this book.My heart broke for her at the end because the choices she probably have to make in the second one is going to be hard. I can see that her heart and head are probably going to be butting heads in this. She maybe between a rock in a hard place but she's going to find her way out and make everything right. She's also the only person I know that can probably rock rainbow-colored hair and look mighty badass. lol
Hideo, Hideo, Hideo. What I can I say by him? That he's a true book boyfriend? Oh hell yes he is. I was swooning hard for that boy but I some time didn't fully trust him. Regardless on how I feel about certain unmoral choices he made in this book ,he was such an amazing character to see Emi interact with and to see why he made certain decisions before the start of the book and during. I honestly don't know how everything going to play out cause what you learn at the end,he could suffer some major major consequences for his actions. I do ship him and Emi together since their relationship was so amazing to see develop throughout the book with flirty, witty banter and steamy make outs! Will they be endgame? After that ending and what's been reveled... That's so up in the damn air but I hope so! Spoiler(
I loved all side characters but one in this but I hope in the next book they get more development. I loved Emi's Warcross team ( Asher, Hammie, and Roshan was freaking awesome) but I want to know more about them. (Side Note I ship Asher and Hammie together. lol )
I actually have to say that I love the villain, Zero in this cause he was freaking sinister but at the same token could be mortally grey. You think at first that his plan was simple but then you realized how complex it is. It's going to be very interesting how he plays will probably play a bigger role than he already does in the second one since he's true identity been revealed. ( Yeah I guessed it but it still was a shock!)I think it's so much more to the story that what we actually think.
The end of the book would make you question " Is there really a right or wrong to something? Is everything actually morally grey?" Certain choices that certain characters made in this book cause been seen ethically wrong but law standards but you can understand the person motives behind what they did. The choices they made were morally grey at best. It's going to be pretty interesting how everything plays out in the second book next year. ( cries)
All in All This book lives to the book hype that I have seen with it in the past couple months. I can't wait until everything gets to read it on September 12! I need the sequel in my hands ASAP!
Do I recommend this?
Yes If you love SciFi and gaming mixed in together!! I'm going to go out on a limb and say this probably one of the best books of 2017.
One more thing before I wrap this up.
I LOVE THE COVER AND DON'T CARE WHAT YALL SAY! After reading the book, the cover fits it perfectly!
So this is still me Right now
and probably will still be me until 2018..
