The book club theme for February is fairytale retellings.
The first thought that came to mind was, Oh dear, I do not own any fairytale retelling books.
I didn't know what to do until yesterday. I was tidying up my bookshelves when I found an old Scholastic book I haven't read yet. It is obviously a retelling of the story of the Snow Queen, so I guess it'll do.
I loved the "Whatever After" series as a kid (oh well, I guess I'm still a kid but you know).
I still love it. A lot.
This story has an amazing message - friends are those who give you freedom to do whatever you want and that they will always be there for you. It is never too late to apologize to a friend you mistreated.
I can really relate to Abby. She gets jealous when other people hang out with her best friend, and I totally get that. Now I've learned to give my friends freedom instead of being over possessive.
