How to Say Babylon by Safiya Sinclair

5.0

Memoirs are such special works. To be so open and vulnerable with the world is something else. I love when books are read by their authors so it feels like they are telling the story just to you. Her sing songs voice and turns of phrase make it so clear she is a poet by trade. It was nice to get such a clear full picture of everything contributing to her childhood and vision of herself. It was clear how much introspection she did to note take the easy way out and simply blame religion or the island  but to dive into the complexities of it all good and bad. The layers to it all were given grace and also held accountable.
