Persuasion by Jane Austen

3.0

Never have I ever read a book where the author summarizes lengthy conversations instead of writing out dialogue. I thought this was a sweet story with a very compelling and likable protagonist. But when the author builds the plot around a simmering romantic tension, and the tension peaks with “and then they spoke and all was settled,” it doesn’t satisfy my desire to know these characters in relation to one another. Of course, this may have been the writing style of the time. Three stars because I wanted it to delve deeper into some characters’ relationships than it did.

This book was chosen for me as part of my “12 Books from 12 Friends in 2023.” I look forward to connecting with this friend and hearing what makes it one of her favorites!
