Under One Roof by Ali Hazelwood

4.0

If Under One Roof were a rom-com, it would be one of those movies where you can predict every plot point but still gleefully cheer when the leads finally kiss. Ali Hazelwood, queen of STEMinist romance, takes us on a cozy, cliché ridden joyride full of sizzling banter, grumpy/sunshine dynamics, and a stubborn refusal to admit feelings until it’s almost too late.

Our heroine Mara inherits part of a house, but finds herself forced to cohabitate with an emotionally constipated environmental lawyer, Liam, who clearly belongs in a “Hot Brooding Men of Fiction” calendar. Their chemistry is instant yet frustratingly slow burn, leaving you muttering, “Just kiss already!”

The novella delivers what Hazelwood does best, awkwardly adorable heroines, strong feminist undertones, and a delicious enemies to lovers tension that’s so thick you could spread it on toast. Sure, the plot is about as predictable as a Hallmark movie, but isn’t that why we’re all here?

And let’s talk spice, when these two finally give in, the heat level skyrockets, leaving you fanning yourself and wondering why more environmental lawyers don’t look like Liam.

Does it reinvent the wheel? Not at all. But it’s like your favorite fluffy blanket, comforting, warm, and exactly what you need for a cozy weekend escape.

Under One Roof is short, sweet, and steamy. I was entertained from beginning to end, a solid 4 stars.
