From Below by Darcy Coates

2.75

Told from two timeline perspectives - the present of a dive seeking footage for a film; and the past leading up to the sinking of the Arcadia ship. This teases the truth as the dive crew finds more and more unsettling signs.

I picked this up after comparison to Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant which was one of my favourite reads of 2022. Sadly, this did not live up to my expectations and put me more in the mind of the Titanic for some reason.
Perhaps because it just didn’t achieve the same realistic scientific explanations and I didn’t find myself connecting to any of the characters. Even now, I couldn’t tell you any of their names - its format partially to blame as I struggle with such details in audiobooks without seeing the spelling to ground me.

This just felt boring which is not what you want out of a thriller.

I know Darcy Coates is a beloved horror/thriller writer, so perhaps this wasn’t the best place to start.
