Why did this book have such high ratings?

I know that Trent/Cole wasn't the driver, but I do NOT have empathy for drunk drivers, especially those who kill multiple people in the process. Kacey lost her parents, best friend, and boyfriend all while she was stuck in the wreckage with them, and then the only surviving passenger of the other car changes his name and stalks her so he can "fix her??" I also predicted that he was connected to the wreck very early on. I also didn't find it romantic at all that she fell for him under false pretenses and then missed him so much after therapy that they lived happily ever after. Don't even get me started on the incredibly unprofessional and unrealistic doctor at the psych hospital. This dude breaks SO many code of ethics rules!

I did like the found family aspect of this book and especially enjoyed the sisterhood between Kacey and Livie, but that's it.

I LOVED The Simple Wild and was really looking forward to reading more of Tucker's work. But I'm even more bummed because there were no content warnings for this and the teaser TikToks made it see  like a very different book.
