Love And Space Dust by David Jones
3.0
There are very few poems and fewer poetry collections that I enjoy. That's partially because I rarely read poetry, but also because I'm very particular. Unlike novels, I don't care much about the 'deeper meaning' of poetry. I just want it to be pretty. That may make me a very superficial poetry critic, but it does make it easy for me to decide if I'll enjoy a poetry collection.
I knew that I would enjoy this collection. I'd already read snippets of the poems and loved them. While the actual poems are semi-lengthy, most sections can be read out of context and still be impactful. The themes in this collection are nothing new, but the poems are so beautiful and lyrical. And depressing. I would have given this 4 stars but I didn't enjoy the last poem, and it was long. I would have preferred for it to have been another few poems that were similar to the rest in the collection.
I'm still not a huge fan of poetry, but I really enjoyed this collection and would love to check out more of this poet's work.
