Dark Faerie by S.T. Bende

4.0

The story in this book is very good. It's pretty much a girl power story, and I really enjoyed that aspect of it and getting to watch Aura's growth as the story progresses.

The characters are mostly well crafted... and then there's Viggo. After reading Bende's other leading men, I'm baffled by how little we get from him in this book. It's like he doesn't even exist until he speaks up, and even then it's flat and doesn't give us anything to work with. It's almost as if this series was written without a romance at all, and then it was added in after the fact. As a huge romance lover I was incredibly disappointed by it. I wanted that love that makes your heart swell, even around the heat of battle like the rest of Bende's books, and it just didn't have that.

The story itself was good and I really enjoy Aura and her friends. If you're looking for some romance in here, though, you may as well pass. I'm still holding out hope that Bende will make up for it with the last book!
