This book had some solid world building, something I haven't seen much of in YA novels. Despite that I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would and I think that's due to the main character Kate. She just doesn't seem to think things trough, analyze her situation, or make any effort to think her way out of a wet paper bag. It makes sense in a character building sort of way, she comes from a world where people are trained to obey and to just get on with the mechanics of living, but I personally don't like it. My favorite character was Silas, who was a cold blooded killer using her for his own means. I just kept yelling at Kate to trust him, since he was the only one with a clear agenda and she could find a way to use that to her advantage. I think it's kind of a bad sign in this type of books when the bad guy is more likeable then the protagonist. I might read a sequel if it had more Silas.
