Grace and Fury by Tracy Banghart

4.0

"In all the stories, women give up everything, we are always supposed to give. We are never supposed to fight. Why do you think that is?"

"Because they're afraid of what will happen if we do."

This exchange was when I knew this series had me. After reading yet another blub about a girl trapped in a beautiful palace, rebellion and danger I was very apprehensive to read Grace and Fury. I feel like I've read a hundred of these stories. This one however actually offered something different and I finished it in a day.
Not only is it an easy read but I found there was enough plots twists to keep me guessing. It lets you think you know what's happening and then gently turns it on you. I found I had accurately guessed a few of them but I wasn't disappointed, more excited that I had gotten it right.
Both Nomi and Serina learn valuable lessons and face harsh consequences. I appreciated that these girls weren't perfect and they truly do suffer while they learn how the world really works. These are real girls in a harsh and extreme society but I believe it.
It finishes without too much of a cliffhanger but I'm still desperate for the next one.
