The Self-Compassion Workbook for Teens: Mindfulness and Compassion Skills to Overcome Self-Criticism and Embrace Who You Are by Karen Bluth

3.0

Great concept for a work book. We know teens with low self-compassion are at risk for MANY mental health problems and I like the idea of focusing on enhancing self-compassion without narrowing in on specific presenting problems (this is not a "self-compassion to cure your anxiety" book).

The ideas are applied well and the mindfulness practices are very clearly presented. However, I find it hard to imagine a real teen using this book. I could see myself adapting it for in-session work, but that sort of defeats the purpose of writing it as a workbook for the teen to complete somewhat independently. I'm not sure what the solution is, but I suspect that few teens are open to engaging in workbooks, and those that are may prefer a book that is targeted to young adults rather than being so blatantly teen focused.
