Building a Storybrand: Clarify Your Message So Customers Will Listen, by Donald Miller

2.0

Honestly, this book feels very annoying to read. The advice it gives could easily be 2-3 blog posts instead of a full book. There is a ton of fluff with all sorts of metaphors and analogies from popular movies and stories. Most of these are forced to conform to Miller's idea of StoryBrand. The concepts that he shares aren't really anything revolutionary. If anything, the concepts are fairly simple but veiled under a lot of pretense to justify building a framework around basic premises such as "put your customer's needs first". I guess it might be helpful if you've never done anything related to marketing, but this book has a bit of a "guru"-ish feel to it that makes it very annoying to get through. I guess that's a byproduct of having a salesman write a book. Thankfully it's not too long so it doesn't burn too much time.
