I cannot overstate how much I loved this book. This is the kind of high fantasy that checks all my boxes and has me fully captivated from start to finish. The characters and worldbuilding are superb, the writing style is incredibly poetic and evocative and the plot strikes the right balance between complex and engaging.
Even if it was slow-paced at first, I enjoyed immersing myself in this universe and getting morsels of details, lore and characterisation page by page. I especially liked Tané and Ead's POVs and I'm just so, so grateful that we're seeing more progressive and talented female voices in today's fantasy landscape.
This is definitely a doorstopper, and a book of this length and scope can hardly be flawless, but personally I didn't find any obvious flaws that discouraged me from continuing it. I think the author did a great job and I'm sure I will be reading the prequel as well!
