Damaged Like Us by Krista Ritchie, Becca Ritchie

2.0

I am fully aware that there are 23 books in this world following various members of this family. However, before reading Damaged Like Us (book 11), I had only read the first 200ish pages of Addicted to You (book 1) before DNFing. I was drawn to the premise of this book with a forbidden enemies to lovers, bodyguard romance. I am pleased to report that this book started strong. The enemies was believable, as was the pining, and even the we should probably not sleep together part of the book didn't bother me. This book then started adding unnecessary plot devices. A cousin crashes a board meeting, and nothing happens. His siblings randomly decided to get piercings (again, why should I care). The media thinks his uncle is his dad (nothing comes of this). They tease a Keeping Up with the Kardashians styled show (probably for future plot reasons, but why should I care?). My 13th reason, however, was the UNNECESSARY INCESTS RUMOUR. I did not need to read about the whole world plus the protagonist's family, believing he was having kinky incest sex with his cousin. This was then solved by him MAKING OUT WITH HIS BODYGUARD INFRONT OF HIS WHOLE FAMILY. ABSOLUTELY NOT. I get that this moment was written to be romantic. However, I almost threw up in my month before dying of second-hand embarrassment. I think I will be taking a break from this series and maybe never return to it.
