Us is a memoir of the relationship between the author and her partner Diana as Diana comes out as a trans woman. It is a mix of their personal story, and more general informative sections that address the reader directly. One of my favourite aspects of this book was the way it made use of the soft pastel colours of the trans flag to great effect. I loved the increasing use of pink as Diana progressed further in her transition and the use of white for transphobes, who tried to suck all the joy (and colour) from others. I really appreciated the author's honesty in sharing her concerns and fears about what Diana's transition might mean for her, but would have loved to hear more from Diana, especially in the early part of the book, when she first raised the idea that she might be a woman. This is a gentle, reassuring, and non-threatening introduction; a sweet and gentle look at the way people and a relationship can grow and evolve, despite the challenges, to encompass and lovingly embrace a new truth.
