I Am the Ghost in Your House by Mar Romasco-Moore
4.0
⭐4.5
This book explores themes and topics that I found really interesting and was incredibly easy/fast to read; I did not notice the time flying by.
World building and magic are very simple to understand and explained in short bursts over time, it's all pretty logical.
Loved the casual inclusion of a nonbinary side character, the lesbian rep and of course Denise, my beloved. She's a darling.
I just know as a child I would've loved this even more, the idea of being invisible to escape fear is so comforting. But this book also did a great job at showing that life is worth not hiding for and the joy of experiencing new things. There is so much more to life than just fear.
Only thing that felt off was a rushed plot towards the end, the investigator to be specific. It felt rather unfinished and could've been more fleshed out before.
The mother plot however was incredibly relatable and I like that it was handled with care and compassion for both people involved. I also appreciate that it wasn't rushed and is allowed room to breathe.
The found family aspect was beautiful too, perfect for our girl Pie. With her absent father, a whole life of being hidden and constantly moving she dearly needed a proper place to call home.
All in all a beautiful story about facing your fears and making space for yourself in the world with the people that can 'see' and love you for who you are.
Content Warnings: off-page sexual assault in the past, substance abuse
