Amina's Voice by Hena Khan

5.0

I love, love, love this little book. Amina is a Pakistani American girl who has just started middle school. There is a small storyline about vandalism at her mosque and there are lots of details about her family's culture and religion and the occasional conflict between them and her very traditional uncle, visiting from Pakistan. But overall the book isn't really About Being Muslim. It's just a story about a middle school girl who happens to be Muslim, who's going through all the regular middle school things everyone goes through - changing friendships, figuring out who you are, finding your voice. Some lovely scenes of interfaith communities. It makes me happy to know this book exists.
