Not Another Love Song by Julie Soto
2.0
This book is absolutely shackled to its fanfiction origins. The side characters are walking nothingness and exist only in proximity to the leads if at all.
The relationship of the main characters is flimsy. There is a good idea here, but the lack of proper conversations between the leads switched with „power of music“ and sex scenes instead makes their bond as stable as a domino house.
The fmc is very naive, never understands what goes on around her and has childhood trauma that specifically comes from the source material, without properly fleshing it out in this book.
Thats my other main issue here. You can give the book a lot of grace when you know who these characters are based (as the cover makes very clear tho the art also has some traces of Snape and Lily), nevertheless, this is meant to be its own story while never truly feeling as such.
The lack of proper communication between the leads makes this especially frustrating and lets you question if they really stay together after the final pages of the novel.
The writing is easy to follow and sucks you in, i’ll give it that! It just needed another few rounds on the editing block
