I have not read the first book in the series, but I did really enjoy book two- Six Month Rule. You can easily start off at any book you would like. They are very easy to follow and each book follows a different couple. I have read several books by this author, so I feel like I pretty much know what to expect going in. I know it is going to be a good romance, I know there are going to be flawed, complex characters that make for an interesting read, and I know that there is probably going to be drama thrown in. And I was right on all of the above for the Three Simple Words.
I do love a book about a blogger. In this case, Annie is a book/romance blogger on the side of her normal job. I love a book worm as a main character. Maybe it makes it easier for me to insert myself in his/her shoes, I don't know. But I do know that I instantly connected with Annie. So what happens when the overly romantic Annie meets jaded in the romance department Will? That is what Three Simple Words centers around. It is a very enjoyable read. I really liked watching the two of them interact. You can totally tell that even when he realize Annie is different from the typical girls he involves himself with- the kind that he knows will go nowhere, he can't help himself. He just can't seem to stay away. I have seen this done time and time again in books, but I always love it when it is done well. And A.J. Pine does this storyline very well. Her writing and characters win me over every time.
Like the Six Month Rule, Three Simple Words is also a rather predictable read, but I really enjoyed it. I thought the characters were well developed, the writing is great and their relationship felt super natural. It felt like they each fell into the others gravitational pull and just kind of stayed there getting closer and closer. The six month rule felt like a book that slowly built up over time. Like a smile that just keeps growing.
Bottom line: If you don't mind a book that is a little predictable, but nonetheless very well done, the Three Simple Words, and the whole Kingston Ale House series, is a great one for you to check out. It is a very character driven read with a lot of sass and a lot of heart.
Side Note: They changed the covers for the series, and I have to say I liked the old covers better, but a lot of that has to do with my own personal opinions about contemporary romance book covers with guys in underwear on the cover.
