I liked Willow way less in this book. I didn’t like that she kept getting manipulated and/or eventually attacked over and over again. It felt repetitive and like whatever she did in the book didn’t really matter because everyone already had their minds made up.
Her dynamic with Gray was less interesting, and the ways they were interacting ended up feeling exhausting. All that steamy tension from the first book did not carry over.
It was still entertaining, but I don’t know that I’d recommend the first book knowing that this is the payoff of the duology.
(Also, the female narrator did lots of monotone voices just at different pitches, and I didn’t care for it. The male narrator’s voice for the demons was also… too growly. Odd choices there.)
