Class Act by Jerry Craft
5.0
This book is one of my new favorites. I read it during silent-reading time in class, but I wasn't very silent as I read because Craft's characters kept me laughing out loud throughout the book. Despite it's fun style, this book deals with very serious and sensitive issues. I appreciate that issues of racism and classism are presented in a way that is very appropriate for middle-school students, but I believe teachers should read the book too. I feel like I learned a lot, and questions that I was nervous to ask were answered in a way that made a lot of sense. (On a side note, I appreciated the jab at teachers saying graphic novels aren't real books. This book is as real as they get.) I am definitely recommending Class Act to my students this year!
