The Girls by Emma Cline

3.0

I didn’t have much expectations for this book, I did see that a lot of people rated this quite highly. I personally felt like I had to finish the book, so I could see what the hype was about. I liked that the book explores power, desire and the complexities of girlhood. I just did not like the main character, the secondary characters felt more interesting and complex. Evie gave off the privileged rich girl that wants to be rebellious yet could not face the music at the end. Her obsession to Suzanne and her willingness to give herself to Suzanne without question troubles me. The lack of common sense made me want to throw the book to a wall.
