The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman

4.0

Re-read this after binge watching the HBO series and was pleasantly surprised at how closely they followed the book, with just a few differences that imo added to the show. I did note that deamons are given more page time because they need to be explained, and it is easier to grasp that understanding when you're forced to read it as opposed to viewing subtle visual changes on screen. Overall, I remember why I loved this book as a kid and as an adult it is more interesting thematically.
