The Girl Who Walked On Air by Emma Carroll

3.0

I love Emma Caroll's writing and all her books have been such a delight for me, but for some reason this one didn't engage me the same way as the rest so far. It was still good. I did want to keep reading and I rooted for the main character, but the other characters didn't really interest me at all, and the mystery wasn't as satisfying as usual.

The reason I love Emma Caroll so much is because her writing and characters are so honest and complex, and she doesn't try to simplify things because it's a children's book. In this one I felt like some of the usual depth was lacking? Just a little, but enough for it to not be as good as the rest. Serious issues were still dealt with, but somehow I felt like they were only "touched", like they could have been explored a little bit more.

It's still a good book! I'm just used to being swept away.
