The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin
5.0
Damn. Wow. Much book. Excellence.
Alright, the only thing I would caution is that I wish I would have read this book, rather than listened to it. The narrator was fine, but I think I would have preferred my internalized voices, and also, there are so many "world-building" words, that I wish I had seen on paper.
This is my favorite type of fantasy novel- the type that drop you into a complex world and expect you to keep up. I love those. I love trying to guess the twist, understand the world in ways that are only available to the other. This excelled at that beyond all hope. I cannot wait to read the next one.
I really cant add to the wonderful reviews that have been written, and I am too afraid to give something away! The three storylines were beautifully woven, the world has such flavor, the clouds of ash are gorgeous and ominous, and you can feel the cold creeping in. Fantastic.
