Quadruplets for the Mountain Man by K.C. Crowne

5.0

I received a free ARC copy in exchange for my honest review.

Quadruplets For The Mountain Man is part of the Mountain Men of Liberty series. It is the first book I have read by K.C. Crowne. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The story is crafted well. The plot moves smoothly, using love, mystery and intrigue well. It doesn't lag and reads easily. The location of Liberty is vivid. The town's people are so entwined in each other's life creating the perfect small town romance. It is also ripe with the characters from previous stories as well as possible future ones.

Living in Liberty, Sam Harvey and his brothers are helping to rebuild after a flood. Sam returns to his hometown for a funeral of his childhood best friend, John. While there he is reunited with John's younger sister, Penny.

Penny, now a pediatrician in New York City, returns home to bury her brother. John had practically raised her and she feels a devastating loss. Growing up she had a big crush on Sam and followed John and Sam everywhere. She leans on Sam, together sharing their pain. They spend the night together. She shares with Sam that she had started IVF, wanting to have a baby but not a boyfriend. Half serious, half joking she asks if he would be the sperm donor.

Visiting Sam and his brothers in Liberty, Penny jumps in to help battle a virus making the community very ill. The team of doctors and the mayor, along with Sam and his twin Graham try to figure out the cause, leading to government cover ups and murder. Penny also finds out she is pregnant. Her night with Sam and protected sex resulted in quadruplets.

The intrigue surrounding the illness, the closeness of the Harvey family and the finally realized mutual attraction of Sam and Penny all wind the story together. It is a standalone romance with a much deserved happily ever after. Now I want to go back and read the other books in the series.
