Marley and Me: Life and Love With the World's Worst Dog by John Grogan

funny lighthearted sad medium-paced

3.0

Marley's story is not so much about "the world's worst dog" but about a dog with severe separation anxiety and his flawed owners who didn't do as much research as they should have, but did the best they could. Most of it was harmless, but the fact that they had to use a choker chain on Marley and even seemed to enjoy the effect it had on him was a bit uncomfortable to read.

It had a lot of dog-related shenanigans which were enjoyable and of course the ending made my eyes watery, not because it was particularly remarkable or well-written, but because I could relate as a pet owner and animal lover. It's a straightforward and (mostly) feel-good story about a dog and his family, so if that's what you're in the mood for, this book is for you.
