I wish I had the maturity or dedication to read this book in AP English in high school. 1984 by George Orwell struck too many chords while listening to the audiobook. The opening was slow, and I almost stopped reading it again, but I'm glad I stuck it out because it is genuinely horrifying. There were points I had to pause and process what Winston was experiencing, as well as consider the implication and confusion of double-think at multiple points in the book. A lot of the parallels between today and the setting of 1984 are alarming, and that is exactly the point. This book will be one that leaders and politicians will always want to get rid of. Even though Big Brother won in the end, and always will, it's an eye-opener.
