Butterfly Stomp Waltz by Michael Warren Lucas
4.0
Beaks is one of the best at what she does, and what she does is make rich people unhappy by hitting them where it hurts--the wallet. She's unabashedly a crusading anti-corporatist; she may take other jobs, but we don't see it in this book. Despite being very good at her job, she pretty much spends all her time behind the eight ball. Lucas does the Jim Butcher schtick, where your main character starts out hale and whole phyxically and then spends the book having the crap beat out of her until she barely drags herself across the finish line. Mentally, she's already broken up and doesn't fare much better in that department. Lucas's prose pulls you along, chapter to chapter, and you need to find out what happens next.
