Aquaman, Volume 1: The Drowning (Rebirth) by Dan Abnett

4.0

As part of my spontaneous comic haul from the library, I picked up the first volume in the rebirth Aquaman series. I wanted to get better acquainted with him because all I knew was that he was the joke of the DC Universe... I wondered if Jason Momoa changed that but then thought let's give the original blonde design a chance first .

I surprisingly really ended up liking this! The action and tension between Aquaman and those he tried to protect on land and sea was handled perfectly. You could cut the tension with a knife, it was so thick. The fighting scenes on top of that were brutal.

The story development ended up having me pretty intrigued into seeing what happens next, whereas initially, I thought I'd just give this volume a go and not think too much about it. After all the plot exploded, it felt like the true villain was America itself, as we truly saw how less valued Aquaman really is. It was quite sad, actually.

I found that sometimes random words were in bold, just to keep you hooked (no pun intended) and weren't always dramatic. It was just like... okay... why is "the" in bold? XD

I loved the art style and the colours were really vibrant and eye catching.

Aquaman, although you were the butt of the DC jokes, I like you... and that counts, right?

Pick it up, give it a go and enjoy! >(^_^)<
