See what I mean about gothic, dark fantasy Kick?

A funny introduction is that I picked it up in the past but never got to reading it. I think it freaked me out just a little bit, but after seeing Ruby Granger rave about it, I decided to pick it up.

It's definitely a book meant for younger kids, but as an almost-adult... holy smokes, it's pretty creepy. You've got the Other Mother, who essentially created the entire Other world and its inhabitants, and she's/ it's the one that wants coraline to stay and get button eyes!! I really loved the Black Cat, though... probably my favorite character, the way it thinks that the whole world revolves around it. I thought it was interesting how the Black cat had no Other counterpart, and when Coraline pointed it out, it said that humans are spread all over the place, while cats keep themselves together." Pretty interesting if I do say so myself! The part about the hand being severed and having a mind of itself was pretty haunting, though... plus the corridor being a Ive, living thing. What??!!

Pretty good read. I probably won't pick it up again bc it's very creepy, but I can see why a movie was created! I thought it was sweet how Coraline had her values and such as well.
