Butcher and Blackbird by Brynne Weaver

5.0

This book is W-I-L-D and I was here for every single minute of it!  I could not put this one down until I finished! It is very dark, full of gory details, blood and guts, literally and it's VERY open door.  I mean open it, tear it off the hinges and throw it out in the yard kind of open. If you're at all squeamish or like it tame, this is not the book for you.  Otherwise, buckle up for a great time.

A friends-to-lovers dark romantic comedy full of murder, chaos, and spice—unlike anything you’ve read before.  When a chance encounter sparks an unlikely bond between rival murderers Sloane and Rowan, who are both Dexter-like characters, the two find something elusive—the friendship of like-minded, pitch-black souls. From small town West Virginia to upscale California, from downtown Boston to rural Texas, the two hunters collide in an annual game of blood and suffering, one that pits them against the most dangerous monsters in the country.

This yearly game brings them together year after year and draws them closer as they go.  It's a bit of a slow burn of will they or won't they.  But once they take off, it is totally on and quite a wild ride.  While at times so very dark, can you say accidental cannibalism????  But there is also a good bit of humor woven through.  You can't help but fall for Rowan and Sloane and root for them.  I am so glad this is going to be a trilogy and cannot wait for the next one to release. I will be interested to see what his brothers get up to from here.  And of course, it had a bit of a cliffhanger at the end which keeps you wanting so much more!  I'm so glad this was recommended to me, so good!
