4.5

This book is hard to describe.  It’s a ghost story. It’s about the love of books. It’s about a moment in time — 2020 COVID, George Floyd. It’s about being haunted by the past and taking responsibility for your actions. It’s about acknowledging the systems that set BIPOC up for failure. It’s about all the things that haunt us, not just ghosts.

At times, it is so well written as to be blindingly good. Sentences that stop you cold because they manage to cut through you in a way that is just startling. I knocked off .5 a ⭐️ solely because there was a part at the beginning that lagged and almost lost me, but even there, the writing is so so good. So good.

Highly recommend if you’re looking for someone with piercing sentences and an amazing ability to capture a moment and a feeling.
