Lysistrata by Aristophanes

Hilarious. Some of the slapstick sexist humor is a bit racy but then this was literally older than colonialism - taken in the context of its period it's quite revolutionary, I guess. To say that this is problematic to a contemporary feminist lens would a gross understatement, but despite being written by a man, and being acted out by men exclusively, in an extremely patriarchal culture, this work still framed the heroines, and womanhood in general, in a surprisingly positive way. Bits of it manage to soar into the sort of dignified, noble lessons you could take to heart.
