The Lost World by Arthur Conan Doyle

4.0

This book was fantastic. I read it after reading Michael Crichton's saga (Jurassic Park), and I must say that this book definitely lays the foundations for every adventure and/or dinosaur-related book.

Regarding dinosaurs, they are not extensively discussed. The "characters" of Tyrannosaurs or Velociraptors are not overly exaggerated. Instead, they are vaguely mentioned, almost like antagonistic entities. In this story (because we're talking about a "story" here!), dinosaurs are seen as "ordinary" animals: they hide and hunt in the forest, without being extremely intelligent (which dinosaurs weren't!) and without stalking the protagonists of the book.

I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 only because it's not a book that captivated me. It certainly didn't make me set aside all my other commitments to read it (as happens with 5-star books), but it was certainly a pleasant read.
