Café Europa Revisited: How to Survive Post-Communism by Slavenka Drakulić

1.0

pretty narrow-minded imo. i found it very tone deaf that she talked about how when war broke out in the early 90’s, she was in london buying wallpaper for her home in zagreb, untouched. she could’ve at least recognized the fact that she was a privileged city person who came out of the war unscathed. it also sucks that she referred to the bosnian genocide as ethnic cleansing, and only used genocide in regards to srebrenica. language is powerful, and reducing what bosniaks went through as ethnic cleansing is extremely harmful, especially considering the fact that what happened is virtually unknown in most parts of the world. overall, i was really disappointed. be better.
