In Memoriam by Alice Winn

This was probably my most anticipated read of the year so I am slightly disappointed that it wasn't a 5 star read for me but I did enjoy reading it nevertheless. I think it is quite a hard book to read and review because it is such a brutal window into life at the Front during WW1. There were times where I had to set the book down and process what I had just read. There is quite graphic detail about injuries and deaths during the war and reading the ages of those who had died was really confronting but of course, this is what happened so you feel compelled to read it.
Gaunt and Ellwood's relationship also took you on an emotional journey, you rooted for them throughout. I felt like I couldn't imagine going through something as traumatic as they did and then afterwards not even being able to count on living in peace together.
An impressive debut for sure!
