An intense character study in two parts, Best of Friends moves quickly. The Karachi scenes in the eighties are evocative- privilege, the blush of first love, and political theater interspersed with the heady emotional beats of being a teenage girl in an intense friendship. The latter half of the book lasers in on the flaws of the two women thirty years later- how they have grown around each other, how they have diverged, and how they have ossified. Brilliant writing that moves quickly, this book will linger for days after you have finished.
