Yoke: My Yoga of Self-Acceptance by Jessamyn Stanley

5.0

LOVED this so much, she had me from essay #1. Very funny, a little irreverent, deeply personal, these essays about her life and spiritual practice are just wonderful. I love her perspective and her voice. I don’t necessarily agree 100% with her perspective on some of these topics, but that’s not the point, the light of her self-inquiry gives me permission and encouragement to shine a light on my own truth, especially on some topics I haven’t really considered deeply or haven’t been sure how to approach; particularly the arenas of racism, white supremacy and cultural appropriation when it comes to American yoga. But perhaps the leading take-away from this book is a wider view of how to make my practice more my own, how to own it and personalize it in ways I haven’t ever considered.
