Perhaps, the author was trying to paint a realistic picture for the women of Rio at that time, but each time she gave Euridice a skill then took it away, was disappointing. It was like Euridice was not fated to have a win. It is also a bit disappointing that Guida's future sort of works out how she wanted it but Euridice's doesn't.
The diversity of the set of female characters was enjoyable. Not much is to be said about the men; basically the same person with just a few differences. Their obsession with "the blood stain on the sheets on their wedding night" was exhausting.
It would have been satisfying for at least one of the women to leave their husband and set out to do something they loved and become even remotely successful, but perhaps that was not the done thing in those times.
