I did it, I tackled another beloved fantasy favorite, and with this one I really enjoyed it.
I think my expectations can get a little too high when reading books lauded for their prose. I really liked Hobb’s writing style, but for me it felt pretty standard when compared to the other favorite fantasy authors out there. I think people that love this writing style just love fantasy in general, and there’s nothing wrong with that. She does a great job across the board with developing her characters and building up this world that I know I’ll want to visit again. She had me guessing towards the end, and stuck the landing. And look, you give me a reluctant father figure like Burrich, I’m going to remain invested enough to finish the trilogy at least.
