I think some S1s may enjoy this, however some may find it a little tame in comparison to similar novels - such as Michael Grant's Gone series and Charlie Higson's The Enemy series - which they will have read.
I like the blend of characters, the art is great and it is an intriguing set up. The sense of peril is nicely built up, however the payoff ends up feeling a little babyish (much more so than that cover suggests). It is the first in the series - and it is aimed at 9-12 year olds - so I will try not to judge it too harshly.
