The Concealing by D.E.L. Connor

4.0

At first, this story was difficult for me to get into. At times there is too much telling and back story, especially in some of the early dialog. It had hints of something beyond the ordinary that was going to happen, but then the story drifted back into talking about the relationships among a group of teenage friends, the supernatural seemingly forgotten. After the first third, however, the story picks up the pace and the plot gets more and more interesting. It is rich with Native American tales and transference of spirits into animals. Once I got caught up in the story, it was difficult to put down. It is hauntingly sad and chilling.
