The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea, by Axie Oh

4.0

It was a fun and cute read. I really liked the mythical aspect of the story and the way we get introduced to the different gods etc. The writing style flowed for the most part, but sometimes I thought some wording disrupted it a bit. I really enjoyed Mina as a main character: she was protective, passionate & brave. She decided to put other's well-being and happiness over her own, which in this novel did not seem pretentious but rather broke my heart for her. I also really liked the trio of Shin, Kirin and Namgi - with Namgi definitely giving fun but thoughtful best friend vibes. Shin was really protective - of his friends but also his duty. I have to say, that I guessed the plot twist as well as a minor one (the identity of the three helpful spirits). I did not really mind that I guessed them, but it did take away a bit of the surprise in the end. I also generally found the setting of the Sea God’s city quite fascinating as wells as the hues of politics. The end was cute and happy
Spoiler though I don't know how I feel about Shin’s sudden memory loss
and I really have to say that I enjoyed the book quite a bit - especially for a YA novel. I read XOXO almost two years ago now and also enjoyed it. With this now also being a 4 star read, I’m looking forward to Axie Oh’s next project!
