I didn't get as much from this book as I'd hoped. This was my fault. It was challenging to read, very much so. The literary style meant there was much metaphor, resulting in unexpected words out of the context in which the characters find themselves.
However, the story was a rewarding look at family, sisterhood in particular, and the bonds we form. It was also hugely evocative of time and place in Spain and Southern France in the mid to late twentieth century.
