DC Pride #1 by Sam Johns, Andrew Wheeler, Nicole Maines

This is such a genuine outing for all of these characters, in a way that feels refreshing and optimistic. As the Foreword describes, lgbtq+ communities have been looking for stories that explore further depths of queer and trans characters than just their mere presence and existence counting as doing enough for representation. We want to see more pride and less pain, and as we are entering into an era of increased anti-trans laws and a seeming trend toward regression into puritanical traditionalism, queer superhero art is unique in its ability to stand as a beacon of hope, an argument for trust in the goodness of human nature, an unapologetic statement about politics and identity, a way to grieve together about the times when tragedy strikes, and an encouragement to keep loving each other anyway. This collection of stories is what I, specifically, want to see more of.
