I first read this book two years ago, I know I enjoyed it but I also kind of forgot I read it til I was part way through this most recent read and started to notice some familiar scenes! However, the first time I read it, I hadn't read any of the Magic in Manhattan books, because Proper Scoundrels was billed as a standalone book in the same setting as the Magic in Manhattan books, so I figured I could still enjoy it. And even though I did really like it, this second read was *even better* since I have read the Magic in Manhattan books. Having already gotten invested in this universe, getting more context to the storylines, getting to first meet Wesley and Sebastian as villains - it all made this book that much better and more fun. There were some small bits here and there, references and allusions to events from the other books that, while not having the context didn't detract from the story at all, *having* the context was just an extra little treat.
